This acrylic painting on stretched canvas presents an imagined still life — Nature Morte, in French — featuring strange and otherworldly blooms arranged with unusual foliage in a vase. Blending the familiar with the fantastical, the composition invites curiosity with its surreal botanical forms and rich detailing, offering a fresh take on the traditional still life genre. This work began life using the alcohol technique whereby alcohol is sprinkled into watery acrylic paint creating 'cells'. This imagined still life of strange blooms and foliage in a vase then suggested itself.
