In this video, I take you behind the scenes of Mosaic Arabesque, a mixed-media collage created from carefully selected fragments of colour, pattern and texture.
Layer by layer, individual elements are arranged to form a rhythmic composition of overlapping circles, transforming separate pieces into a unified whole.
The artwork draws inspiration from the rich decorative traditions of the arabesque, a style of ornament that flourished in Islamic art and later influenced Victorian design, the Arts and Crafts movement, and Art Nouveau. Geometric repetition, flowing pattern and harmonious colour relationships all play a role in shaping the final composition.
Using hand-cut papers, found imagery and printed patterns, I explore how repetition and variation can create movement, balance and visual harmony. The circular motifs echo both mosaic traditions and contemporary abstract design, inviting the viewer to discover new connections within the layered surface.
This collage is available to purchase in the Nouveau Fantasia gallery.
