This picture started life with a combination of the plastic film and the alcohol techniques whereby crumpled plastic is impressed into, and alcohol is sprinkled onto wet paint respectively. This black and white print/acrylic illustration on paper captures the striking form of a single imaginary spiked tropical flower. The detailed, sharp lines and contrast of dark and light highlight the intricate structure of the petals and spikes, bringing a bold and dramatic presence to the delicate yet powerful beauty of the flower. This started life as a print using the plastic film technique whereby creased plastic film is impressed into watery acrylic paint creating organic 'veins'. The result suggested this image to me which was elaborated with black and white acrylic pens.
