This abstract collage/acrylic painting depicts scattered or falling glittery maple leaves set against a deep purple background. This piece started as a colourful collage to which successive layers of a red-tinted glaze were applied negatively painting around the maple leaf shapes. These bespoke bright pinks, blues, and purples burst forth against a backdrop of lush green foliage, with layered textures and vibrant forms evoking the joyful abundance and untamed beauty of nature at its peak. I wanted to produce a colourful, abstracted field of flowers - as if the viewer is looking out of a window ie: the frame - on the scene. The piece is textured and sanded to produce 'broken' colours and uses muted, yet colourful delicate pastel shades. The vibrant blooms burst with life and colour, inviting the viewer to gaze out onto a joyful, sunlit landscape brimming with natural beauty and a sense of peaceful escape. This artwork will add a pop of colour to any area and brings nature's glory into the interior environment. I feel that this picture will happily coexist with more conventional artworks, but could take pride of place above a sofa or fireplace. 

This artwork was selected for a Curator's Choice Award in Accent Gallery's Pastel Tones 2026 Exhibition.

This picture was produced using a combination of the alcohol technique whereby alcohol is sprinkled into watery acrylic paint creating 'cells' and the plastic film technique where creased plastic film is impressed into watery acrylic creating interesting 'veins'.
