Rape Field
This stylised acrylic painting on stretched canvas depicts a bright yellow field of rapeseed in full bloom. The bold, expressive use of colour and simplified forms captures the striking vibrancy of the landscape, evoking the warmth and energy of a sunlit countryside scene in peak summer. This piece was created for a solo 2024 exhibition 'A Sense of Place' inspired by the southwest of England. Rape fields have become a common sight in England in recent decades. This artwork was created using the alcohol technique whereby alcohol is sprinkled into watery acrylic paint to create 'cells. The outcome of this initial process suggested this subject to me.
