Purple Fugue

A study in rhythm, texture and restrained colour, Purple Fugue layers a collaged delicate lavender and violet lino print with a pale ground in bands which move across the surface, creating a sense of structure and repetition - all topped off with glittering varnish! 

The interplay between the organic motifs and the strident vertical forms gives the piece a quiet musicality — different elements repeating, overlapping and responding to one another like voices in a fugue. Subtle variations in tone and texture reward closer viewing, revealing an intricate surface beneath its serene palette.
