Flora Palimpsest

A richly layered mixed-media collage on card celebrating the quiet exuberance of botanical life. Against a luminous patchwork of aged papers, faded script, decorative motifs and translucent washes of aqua, turquoise, cream and pale gold, three groups of deep indigo and violet flowers emerge like treasured botanical specimens.

The composition combines fragments of vintage ephemera and ornamental pattern, creating the feeling of an antique botanical archive reimagined through a contemporary lens. Gold flecks and distressed textures bring warmth and movement to the cool blue-green ground, while the richly coloured flowers provide dramatic focal points.

The result is decorative, atmospheric and slightly mysterious — part botanical study, part memory, part imagined garden. The artwork has a beautiful sense of depth, with some elements appearing almost buried beneath layers of history and others floating prominently on the surface.
