How does a surface acquire a sense of history?
Verdigris Vestiges explores the beauty of weathered surfaces, texture and patina. Inspired by aged metal, worn tiles and architectural fragments, I layered geometric patterns, corrugated textures and fragments of collage to create a richly textured composition.
The palette evolved around oxidised turquoise and verdigris, complemented by copper, bronze, muted rose and earthy tones. I wanted the layers, marks and imperfections to remain visible, giving the work an almost archaeological quality.
The title reflects the traces and remnants of things transformed by time — and the beauty of giving them a new life.
