Roots Thicket

This acrylic painting on canvas board explores the intricate beauty of abstract roots amidst surrounding foliage. The roots are rendered in expressive, organic lines that twist and weave through the composition, while the surrounding foliage provides a sense of natural movement and growth. The interplay of shapes and colours creates a harmonious balance between the grounded, earthy nature of the roots and the lightness of the surrounding greenery. This piece is part of a series of five complementary artworks, each capturing a different facet of nature’s complexity. The works are designed to be displayed together in groupings of two or more, as depicted, allowing the viewer to appreciate the full narrative and visual rhythm that emerges when the pieces are arranged collectively. This artwork started life using the plastic film technique whereby crumpled film is impressed into watery acrylic paint. The result then suggested this image to me which was worked in crayon.
