Maple Leaves

This abstract collage/acrylic painting depicts scattered or falling glittery maple leaves set against a deep purple background. The shimmering golden hues of the leaves contrast beautifully with the rich, dark backdrop, evoking a sense of movement and transformation, while the combination of texture and colour brings an ethereal quality to the composition. This piece started as a colourful collage to which successive layers of a red-tinted glaze were applied negatively painting around the maple leaf shapes. A glitter varnish covered the whole piece before applying the final negatively painted purple acrylic paint. A video detailing the process can be found here. Note that the photographs don't really do the effect of the glitter varnish justice which twinkles in the light.
